What sectors does Mediator Locator cover? We have expertise in all sectors, so will have a suitable experienced mediator to recommend to you. Those sectors include (but are not limited to) business, private client, commercial / civil, property, employment, construction, breach of contract, family and matrimonial, insurance, maritime, etc.

What are the benefits of mediation? Mediation is quicker, cheaper, easier, less stressful, generally less confrontational, it can preserve relationships, it is completely confidential and highly likely to result in settlement.

Is mediation expensive? Mediation is significantly cheaper than the alternative methods of dispute resolution and will save you substantial time and money. As a process it’s straightforward and highly effective, especially with the right mediator appointed. That is why Mediator Locator has carefully selected our mediators to ensure quality, experience and knowledge.

What are the costs of mediation? At Mediator Locator we have two panels of mediators, a Primary Panel for higher value more complex mediations, and a Set Value Panel for disputes up to £50k in value. WIth the primary panel, the cost depends on the nature of the dispute and which expert mediator is appropriate. Why should I use Mediator Locator? Mediator Locator is a free mediation appointment service, in partnership with prestigious law firms, where all our mediators are highly skilled legal professionals employed by our partners. Our mediators are specialists in their respective fields, and many are celebrated in legal directories as leading sector experts. With huge depth and experience from our mediators, you will be in safe hands when using our services.

Who are the mediators? Currently, we partner with 11 highly respected full service law firms, and from those law firms we have 27 mediators. All our mediators are highly experienced professionals, most of whom are senior partners with very substantial legal and mediation experience.

How does mediation work? Once appointed, the mediator will liaise with the parties to schedule and manage the mediation process. On the day of the mediation, the mediator will assist the parties in better understanding the realities of their respective cases, will help guide the parties towards resolution, and they will manage the process of any settlement offers and counter offers. The mediator is completely independent and will act impartially throughout the mediation. Whilst acting as a facilitator, our mediators bring to bear their considerable knowledge and expertise, so the parties have the best prospect of achieving a resolution.

Are mediators independent? Yes. All our mediators are completely independent, and operate with total integrity. As their mediation activities are fully regulated, primarily by the Solicitors Regulatory Authority, you can be assured of the mediator’s propriety at all times.

Who pays for the mediator? Mediator Locator recommends a mediator free of charge. However, it is the responsibility of the parties to pay the mediator directly for their services. Unless one party agrees to pay for the mediation, i.e., this can often occur in workplace situations, or with some large Landlords (e.g., Local Authorities or Housing Associations), the usual position is the parties share the cost equally. Consequently, by sharing the cost, mediation is an inexpensive option, especially compared to the alternatives.

Are there fixed fees for mediations? Yes. At Mediator Locator we offer fixed fees for disputes up to £50k in value via our Set Value Panel.

Does Mediator Locator fffer free mediation? Mediator Locator is a relatively new mediation referral service, and as our mediators are all highly qualified professionals, regrettably at present we are unable to provide any free mediations. However, we intend to keep this under review and hope to be able to offer some pro bono mediations in the future.
